A Chief Information Officer (short: CIO) is a role in an organization and responsible for all administrative IT topics.

Alternative role names are Head of IT, etc. .

The differentiation from a Chief Digital Officer (CDO) lies primarily in innovation. A CDO’s primary task is to promote innovation. A CIO is supposed to optimize the internal IT management.

Why this is interesting for a Chief Digital Officer (CDO)?
Chief Digital Officer (CDO) are - despite current New Work efforts - still part of a (hierarchical) enterprise organization. There are different areas of work at C-level (CxO). The CDO must come to agreements with these.
