Directory that is storing information about characteristics of data and other databases. Information about data or databases can be for example data types, table names, ranges of values and indices. Especially in case of a data directory including a lot of other databases, it can often be used as a list of sources. A data directory that has a direct connection to database software is often defined as a system catalogue.
