The term Fab City describes a city that wants to produce everything it consumes itself by 2054. The term “Fab City” comes from the fact that there is an initiative called “Fab City Network” and cities become such a “Fab City” when they join this network. Originally, however, the abbreviation “Fab” was derived from “Fabrication”.

This project is dedicated to sustainability, more precisely to a more sustainable economy, and at the same time tries to implement this in a city, i.e. in a larger area. In this way they want to meet the great challenge that more and more people will live in cities. The network also aims to promote the exchange, promotion and development of knowledge and creative ideas. Hamburg is the first German city to join the Fab City Network and thus sets an example.
