A Digital Lab (abbreviation for “Digital Laboratory”) is a facility within a company in which digital solutions can be tested – similar to a conventional laboratory. This facilitates the development as well as the implementation of digital solutions in companies. Digital labs are created primarily in the context of digitalization or due to the digital transformation of companies, mostly in conjunction with industry 4.0. Digital labs function similarly to Innovation labs, but do not focus on general innovations like Innovation labs, but rather on digital solutions. As a rule, an Innovation Lab can also be seen as a type of Digital Lab.
