World Wide Web (short: WWW) describes an Internet service. It is a collection of HTML websites that can be reached through the Internet.

Technically it is its own protocol on the TCP/IP stack. Usually on TCP port 80.

This protocol is used to retrieve electronic hypertext documents, so-called websites. These are described with HTML.

The inventor of the World Wide Web is the Briton Tim Berners-Lee.
