External Digitalization

Digitalization is changing the demands that customers and suppliers, but also the market itself, place on the company. External digitalization is about how the company presents itself to the outside world and how it deals with these new requirements in order to be able to continue to operate successfully in the market.

This is about answering the questions:

  • How can I design my product range to inspire the customer? (Raise Net Promoter Score)
  • How can I bring my products to market as quickly as possible? (Go-to-Market strategy)

Digital Unit external

Describes own companies, which deal intensively with the topic digitization and promote this topic. Digital Unit external and Digital Unit internal cannot always be clearly separated from each other.

n.a.

Digital Business Model (Value Proposition)

A business model describes how a company creates value, communicates that value and records it as revenue. Digitalization creates entirely new ways in which a company can create value that can be integrated into existing business models. Value proposition is the core of the business model, as it determines the benefits a company can offer its customers. Existing companies must therefore review their business models (in particular value proposition) and determine whether a new approach created by digitization should be used to increase the benefits for the customer.

More about digital business model can be found here in the glossary: Business Model.

Name:myAgro
Description:Central problem: Seeds and fertilizers are the two biggest cost factors in thelife of a farmer. As these are only available in large quantities, it is often necessary to take out loans. However, this is problematic for farmers as loans are very expensive. In fact, farmers are more inclined to save.

Mission: To lead small farmers out of poverty.
Solution my Agro: By developing a mobile platform, farmers can avoid taking out loans, save money and finance their farms themselves.
The whole thing works similar to a prepaid scratch card model when buying prepaid minutes for mobile phones. Farmers can pay in advance for fertilizer, seed and training packages by buying a myAgro card at their local village shop (from 50 cents to 50 dollars) and depositing their money into a return account by entering the scratch code.
After a few months of buying the scratch cards and gradual savings, myAgro delivers the fertilizer, seeds and training they paid for in time for planting time. This bankless savings program increases the average harvests as well as the net income of myAgro farmers.

Science for a better lifeBayer pursues “Science for a better Life” with a focus on the life sciences, particularly in three different areas: Pharmaceuticals, Consumer Health and Crop Science including Animal Health.

Pharmaceuticals: We are seeking to contribute to medical progress through our focus on researching, developing and marketing innovative medicines that provide significant clinical benefit and value primarily in the therapeutic areas of cardiology, oncology, women’s health, hematology and ophthalmology.

Consumer Health: Increasing cost pressure on public health care systems and greater personal responsibility by consumers are increasingly putting the spotlight on the benefits of self-care. In addition, advancing digitization in the health care market necessitates an increased focus on digital products and services.
We are tackling these changes by reinforcing our core brands by investing in innovation and expanding our digital range, as well as our ecommerce activities.

Crop Science/Animal Health: The need for food, animal feed and renewable raw materials is growing worldwide. At the same time, however, the available arable land is limited and is increasingly endangered by the impact of climate change. In addition, there is growing demand for sustainable farming practices. This requires innovative solutions that can be leveraged to boost agricultural productivity and guarantee food security.
As part of our strategy to develop holistic solutions, we aim to build on our expertise in the integration of seed technology with chemical and biological crop protection. We are also driving digitization.
In the field of digital farming, we plan to develop a proprietary range of services with specific data models that simulate risk factors for crop disease outbreaks, among other things. Our goal is to provide farmers with tailored recommendations on the targeted and correct use of our products, thus helping them to improve their yields.
In line with our commitment to sustainable agriculture, we promote cost-effective and socially viable farming practices that use resources efficiently and protect the environment. By providing tailored solutions, we aim to help smallholder farmers in developing and emerging countries to optimize agricultural production and improve their living standards.
